New York City: Day 1

I now live in New York City. Brooklyn to be precise. Maybe in a few months I'll learn that only tourists think Brooklyn is part of NYC proper and think myself a pleb for even suggesting the two. I will probably learn this at an art exhibit opening hosted by my new, gay friend, Roman (the 'man' part is pronounced like 'mon', not 'men'). Oh how we'll laugh, and with each guffaw I will lose a bit of my soul. At least the crab cakes at the opening were DELISH! Anyways...

Today I graduated the University of Connecticut. Or at least I think I did. All morning I was possessed by the irrational thought that I might have missed one minute bit of course requirement subtext, or a piece of paper might have been lost in bureaucratic cracks of UConn, leaving me unable to graduate. Those feelings didn't die down until sometime into the Commencement. The thoughts aren't gone entirely, but I feel a great deal of relief now that I am in the new apartment.

I am going to be honest and tell everyone that I've fallen in love with this apartment. It has nearly everything I am looking for, is a reasonable price, and is in a fairly good neighborhood (as far as I can tell). Everything in it is coming together well, even the Ikea bookcase/TV stand whose assembly must certainly have been my right of passage into manhood. I am now a man because of a bookcase. Let that settle (I haven't).

Tonight is my first night in a new place. Before I go, I want to tell everyone why this blog is titled Gedanken. I first heard the word gedanken in my high school physics book and it stuck with me. It is a German word, which in the context of my book was referring to Einstein's Gedanken experiments or thought experiments. The reason I have come to this city is a to test an idea: to see if dreams are possible to achieve. I have heard they are, but I am not satisfied with leaving the truth of this matter up to Disney. Therefore, I think gedanken is very fitting.

Tomorrow I have a big day, so for now I must rest. I will likely record something hear tomorrow.

Goodnight, friends.
